An uncommonly known fact about owls, despite their noisy screeches, would be their uncanny ability to fly, almost noiselessly. The wings of these great predators are adapted to allow them to fly in silence. Hence, a possible direction that the scientists are researching for stealth technology, would be to understand and imitate the structure of owl’s wings to improve the acoustic stealth design of conventional aircrafts.By studying the structure of owls’ wings it would better help to understand how the creatures can effectively reduce the noise level during its flights. The scientists proposed that the key to this acoustic stealth ability is by reducing noise away from the wings’ trailing edge, meaning that the dominant source of noise actually come from the edges. As a result, if the theory is proven, aerodynamic noise could be reduced significantly by making the trailing edges using elastic or porous materials, and if correctly applied to the military, could enhance their stealth aircrafts.





DRONES: THE UNMANNED KILLING MACHINES

Another interesting combination would be that of stealth technology with drone technology.



Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) that are often coupled with anti-personnel capabilities. They have been infamous as of late, after the sensationalisation of drone-related killings perpetrated by the American military, in what is now established as the government-sponsored killing of “terrorists, mostly in northwestern Pakistan, beginning around 2004.



Existing drone systems are continually being developed and deployed in militaries around the world, and is often universally established as a key military asset that can be utilised for targeting mobile targets, or for surveillance missions. This is especially effective, given that the drones offer a small physical footprint, and are perfect for embedding stealth technologies to avoid detection from the target.
